"Andrews McMeel Universal and Amazon.com are thrilled to announce that Girl by Dana Simpson is the Grand Prize winner of the Comic Strip Superstar contest. Dana's prizes include a publishing contract with Andrews McMeel Publishing, a development contract with Universal Uclick and syndication on Gocomics.com. Thank you to everyone who voted and to all of the talented creators who submitted their work in the competition!"

I personally wish DCS luck with her syndicated strips.

Oh, and which one of you jerks is responsible for this? That's just mean.

I noticed it, and wrote a Post in the thread about it. People, there is a time and place for trolling

No, I mean the "Raine Dog" sub-forum when that comic is updated...

That was probably an ED troll and not one of us, as I don't know who'd say that here. Then again I could be horribly wrong.
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

It isn't really trolling to make fun of her on our own website.

OZY AND MILLIE IS BETTARRRRRRRRRRRRR
Hate to jump on the "IT'S NEW SO NOW IT SUCKS" bandwagon, but this really is true. I was showing someone the link for the O&M strip print I ordered a few years ago, and started clicking the Next button just for the sake of it. I re-realized that back then, the jokes were actually enjoyable and funny most of the time. Sure there were some wall-of-text political discussions that weren't really needed, but on average, the comic was just that--a comic, and a relatively good one at that.

And then I look at RD and wonder how DCS could have fallen to his/her current state. On the other hand, I look at Girl and note with some satisfaction that all of the strips that were ripped off of O&M were from the earlier years, again back from when it was actually funny.

Dunno where I was going with this, to be honest. That tends to happen all too often nowadays =/

I enjoyed reading it. GIRL pains me because O&M is twice as funny and a million times furrier (and therefore cuter) and I'm glad you agree.

Yeah I have to admit it was a pity that O&M or some variation thereof wasn't syndicated, but I guess DCS wanted to avoid furry stigma.

I guess this is close. I just hope Girl has mostly original content... thankfully the sample strips do have a mini story arc that I found enjoyable.

Really? God, how awful. Just what we need, another comic I don't want to read in the papers.

Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll drop the syndication when the newspaper industry collapses because everything is going online. The irony then would be that the comics would be hosted online. We've come full circle.
If you've done things right, people won't be sure if you've done anything at all.

Is it going into the papers? I thought it was grabbed by a book publisher. I looked up Andrews McMeel and it looked to me like they only made book collections of comic strips but didn't actually contribute to the newspapers' comic section. So it is probably going to be online anyway.

Anyway, I think it's great that DCS won that contest. We probably won't see any more O&M updates, or Raine Dog updates for that matter, but the contracts sound like a steady job that DCS will consistently stick with. I'm looking forward to seeing how Girl plays out.

If this makes DCS go back to the way she was back when we liked her, then this is a Good Thing.
