Somebody mentioned that DCS was inspired by his D&D group's storyline, I think? I wonder where they got that idea.

That would be me but I was just poking fun at that part of nerddom. No surprise Stephen likes to play it.

How would a half-orc be able to use a scroll? Unless it was a half-orc Cleric, but who would have a half-orc cleric?

Also who is Stephan playing with? He's the only nerd in town.

Since he evidently has a portable computer, he is playing on the Internet with someone who could be in Timbuktu for all anyone knows.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you have to get a bunch of people around a giant board to play D&D?

I don't have the book in front of me but I believe the commentary was somewhere along the lines of "lawl, making this up. I don't get gamer nerds. English nerds rulez."

He makes fun of Magic the Gathering later. Although the mockery is spot on in that case.

*raises hand* I've played a half-orc cleric. He was a cleric of Gruumsh.

Stephan has always been tricky to write for because the truth is I really don't speak geek. I've had to either do some research, or have geek friends help me out (which they've always been happy to do).

Faking geek isn't too hard as long as your audience isn't a bunch of geeks. I once wrote an in depth parody of Erogon despite not knowing anything about the book except that its suppose to have a similar story arc as Star Wars

Despite not knowing what it's called, even :)

Eragon is a fully mediocre book, so packed with clichés that you could probably guess the plot if you've ever read a fantasy novel.

a small, not-self-confidant person is tapped on the shoulder to do something extraordinary and is aided by a big dragon or some shit who helps him save the day from a big bad person who is about to destroy the world.

am I close?

A similar story arc to Star Wars? What are you talking about?

Eragon is a book about a farm boy who is accidentally sent an important object stolen from the evil empire by a princes in league with the resistance. The farmboy then finds a mentor who was once a member of an ancient and dying order, and as they travel receives coaching in a rare and powerful ability. Eventually, the farmboy begins having visions of the princess in danger, and together with his mentor infiltrates an enemy base in order to free her, with the help of a handsome rogue. The mentor dies, and the farmboy and rogue, along with the princess, travel the rest of the distance to the resistence...

...wait.
