Also Dana Carvey. He's the first male Dana that comes to mind for me.

Ok, I never had a clue DCS had gone through that change. Not everyone knows the details of a comic artist's personal life, many of us just read the strips and perhaps comment in the forum. As for Raine, all images in the few strips posted so far hint at always female, whether pup, adult or activist (or whatever).
So just because a few (most?) people don't get the reference I can't mention it? Hmm... :? . However, I should have been clearer maybe. I didn't mean "at first this and then that" sort of thing. It just came out that way grammatically. That being said, I believe that the patronizing aspect is the real intention.

Nah I think it's a female name, but I just found it odd I found a GUY with the same name.

Also UFC president Dana White. I think it's more of a unisex name.

I'm not aware of it being short for anything at all... I knew--well, kinna still do, but I bump into him, like, once every 18 months these days--a guy named "Jessep"; no idea if that has anything to do with it.

These would imply, you know...not.

I remember hearing about a novel in which a man successfully steals a woman's identity (like in the identity-theft sense, not literally passes himself off as her on an everyday basis), in part because her name is Dana.

Also this reminds me that she needs to get the freaking "Creator's Corner" page up PDQ. It's been, what, a month already?
