So would that make Ozy and Millie pre-teens? Or something else?

I thought that they were ten or twelve or something. So, maybe.

they're ten, which AFAIK counts as a tween and not a preteen.

AFAIK? And does anybody really use the word tween in a serious context?

AFAIK = As Far As I Know

And if "tween" is not already recognized in educational pamphlets and whatnot, I imagine it will be soon.

Tween 1). U.S. a boy or girl between childhood and adolescence, especially between the ages of 8 and 12.
In other words, it's almost the same thing as preteen:
preteen
adj : of or relating to or designed for children between the ages
of 9 and 12; "a preteen party"; "preteen clothing"
[syn: preadolescent]
n : a preadolescent boy or girl (usually between 9 and 12 years
of age); "little league is intended for the preteens"
[syn: preteenager]

Heh, it's interesting to think that the words teen, preteen and tween didn't even existed 100 years ago. As far as I know, "Teen" was a category of person invented after the second world war that could be marketed to. Teen is an invented class of person, in other words. Before that, the only distinction was "child" and "adult" - that's all there was.

That E special about the Olsen Twins did.
Now see, that doesn't quite fit my criteria of "serious context."
