perl's full of a bunch of weird syntax. python, you can at least read the code without knowing the language and kind of understand what's going on.

rather than buy a book, I find that if you just read the online manual and start out by using the tutorial, it's amazingly simple. Whenever you need to do something new, you find the module to import, and those often come with examples and stuff that does almost exactly what you want to do.

I've already read the tutorial, thank you. I just need to get more fluent in the language. I was going to write these things in Python, but switched to Perl for two reasons: good libraries easily available (I trust Python will have these in a few years) and easy text processing. I've written a few things in Python, and might end up doing a large project in Python next semester (although more likely PHP)
