Meh I dont really care about my post count. Ive seen people who would post in a subject just to get another post, even if they couldent relate to the topic in anyway.

That was a very good idea though, thanks!

People who boast about their post counts and post "What he said!" repeatedly or plain spam in order to increase it (and boast more!), should have their post counts reduced. Preferably to something negative.
Yes, I am thoroughly aware my avatar is a whole lot more appropriate on a certain other community I visit. But I don't care. Now, what are you going to do about it?

I agree if this practice is overdone, but for a situation like this:
One situation
I think a response like mine had a point, and that those who said afterward that they agreed also helped to prove that point, as you can surmise from the context.
Saying 'I agree', or 'I disagree' is a practice that in reality isn't done enough. It is a practice that acknoledges the prior speaker(typer in this instance, but anyway...) that he/she said something valid. Saying it just to increase a post count, yeah thats just wrong, but most of the time I've seen it said, i've seen it as an acknoledgement, not a posting tactic.

Oh, although belated:

Quote:

QUOTE (Msj @ Oct 25 2003, 07:27 AM)
I can understand what you mean. I've noticed high post counts already as if they grew over night ohmy.gif I only post when I feel like I have something to say personally ^^;; But the "poster above you" thread this morning I checked and there were only 8 pages. Now I come home from school and it's twice that amount and it's just..whoa lol.

Yeah,... I guess we got pretty carried away last night.

ok, I am sorry if it offended anyone. It was just a really fun situation, not meant really to increase my post count, but meant for the sheer enjoyment of it. (personally, i do wish those postings didn't go into my count. I think its far to inaccurate as to my activity on this site now.) I probably won't be involved in a 'post war' for a while anyway, but if one comes up in the game forum after some time, i will participate given it would be enjoyable. Well, thats all i really have to say on the subject. Just note, some of what may seem to be spaming may have a legitimate purpose in proper context. Yes, spamming should be stopped, though.
Also, please note, i'm trying to be objective here. I am very much so against spamming, but there needs to be a line drawn at where legit posts end and spamming begins. I'm just stating what needs to be. You can't call something spam until you define it, and it may be different in each thread. now, please don't throw stones at me or anything...
If you've done things right, people won't be sure if you've done anything at all.

Meh. It ain't that big of a deal, in any case...high post counts won't result in your deification here, hopefully. If anyone here starts screaming about "n00bs invayding bord omg!!!11uno!" then yes, they should be beaten with a stick. No one here is that dumb, though, so I can't see it mattering.

Well, people who brag about their post counts (aside from simply editing in a thingy at the bottom of their post) should be slapped repeatedly.

And in the new games forum...
Are you going to apoint a mod there anytime soon?

Post counts have been misleading alright.. even now, it's hard to see whether those people who are active are simply being active in the forum games section or are active all around.. Of course, as far as I can see, those people active in the games section are also very active throughout.. it just skews the numbers a bit more in their favor.

*sees spamming post & reply... walks away innocently*

except that (unless I'm mistaken) forum games doesn't actually count posts -- it's specifically excluded from post counts.

The one thing that might be misleading is that something like 17 pages of "post about the poster above you" went on in the pre-games forums, so everyone who was active in there will sit way at the top of the list for a while until it averages out.

I don't think so. If you took a look at the most active posters for today, you'd see that some people's posts for today exceeded their all time post counts.. *reads* Iyestorm has tallied 34 posts today, despite only having 30 counted. Ever. It's clear that the "Today's Top 10 Posters" page is still counting them in some manner.

ahh, yes... the point being, of course, that the posts don't go into permanent profiles... so you can tell, at least, who's been active board-wide and long-term.

I didn't realize anybody used the "today's active posters" button. I suppose it could be useful...
