Congratulations to Lance Armstrong, who has become the first person in the 101-year history of the Tour de France to win it six times. Six in a row, in fact.

He did all this after nearly dying from cancer eight years ago.

Wasn't he also the first person to win it 5 times in a row? and 4 times in a row? and 3 times in a row? A- I'll assume somebody else won it twice in a row before.

All I know is my dad always tapes the thing. This led to much frustration since I couldn't watch tv as a kid while it was going on.

<SteveThePocket> Geez. I want more of this stuff now. Now I know how a horny guy on an imageboard feels.

Louison Bobet won from 1953-1955 (3 in a Row)
Jacques Anquetil won from 1961-1964 (4 in a Row)
Miguel Indurain won from 1991-1995 (5 in a Row)
Lance Armstrong won from 1999-2004 (6 in a Row)

So no, no, and no.

You look at what they're going up, and they travel 110 miles a day, go to bed, get up the next day and do it all over again. I mean, averaging 22 mph in mountainous terrain takes some doing. I think that finishing at all is a feat in itself.

And Lance also has cancer, and he still grabs the yellow jersey. I mean, :kudos: (if thats a real smily i'll laugh)

I think it's great that some of our most celebrated athletes aren't overpaid football/baseball/basketball players, but rather people like Lance, who are really doing something unbelievable.

I'm quite against large wages for sports people cos they're paid loads for an average of 1-2 hours entertainment for us all a week. There are stage actors doing 3 hour plays 6 nights a week getting paid nearly nutting.

Whereas I'm quite against it considering people doing jobs that help society (teachers, nurses, etc) get less.

I mean, I'm ok with large prizes for events...

U know that Diana fountain? What a joke. I mean, 4 000 000 for something that puts people in hospital, wrecks the park and doesn't even work anyway. BUILD A HOSPITAL OR SOMETHING AND DEDICATE IT TO HER - its a much better reflection of her life than a killer water feature. And why'd we commission sum1 to design it who's last attempt at a water thingy in Manchester failed miserabley?

*Gives a round of applause to Lance before going back to my daily routine*

Well, glad to hear that he's won. Again.

EDIT: Is it just me, or is Mr. Armstrong sounding like the Tour De France version of the New York Yankees...?

No because unlike the Yankees, Lance has won the Tour the past 3 years.

It's a joke, as the Yankees are always winning... I didn't necessarily imply the World Series by that.

Yankees are the epitome of evil, yes.

I'd say "Go Mariners," but they totally suck turnips this year.
