World Cup 2010

Remember, football isn't a matter of life and death to some, it's much more important than that.

Personally it's just another sport to me, but hey, maybe we'll get some discussion out of it.

I enjoyed Google's easter egg when you search "world cup".

Also.

Great, England draw against a country that doesn't even sodding care it's playing.

In case some of you yanks and canuks didn't see the absolute howler of an American goal during yesterday's footingball game against England United;

After match press conference with the Argentine coach Maradona, some reporter asked him whether he had a close relationship with his team. Maradona just looked bewildered and stared at him for a moment before saying that he prefered women. Translation error or Maradona being his usual self against the press again I wonder.

Elsewhere very interesting match between Brazil and North Korea, mainly because of how well North Korea defended against a team that are usually very good, even if they lost 2-1 in the end. That was the only game I watched so far.

I saw the end of the Spain-Switzerland game. Switzerland played very well (as far as I could tell) even if they were very aggressive.

There are reports (from Xinhua, the Chinese news agency) that North Korea has recruited Chinese fans to cheer for their team at their games, because very few North Koreans can actually afford to leave the country (if they're allowed to at all).

With regards to vuvuzelas, the BBC are considering offering an alternative audio stream with the vuvuzela noise filtered out. New Scientist published an article on why they're so annoying.

The French lost to Mexico today - GOOD. That's what those bastards get for cheating Ireland out of the World Cup.

You think? From what I've seen all teams seem to have made an agreement that they'll continously go after specific players.

Upset for the hopeful German team, and for the US apparently. Seems they had a goal disallowed or some such which would have enabled them to win.

Words cannot describe the rage boiling inside of me. Now granted if the US hadn't put themselves in a 2-0 hole to begin with this wouldn't be an issue; but my god what a terrible call.

It's because the rest of the world still hates America.

The world doesn't hate us for electing Bush. The world hates us because we're Americans. Just as people hate blacks or Jews.
