An interesting observation

One of my teachers recently noted that in coverage of the situation in Iraq seems very polarized. He noted that war supporters tend to only make reference to the good stories out of Iraq, while those against the war only reference the bad ones.<br><br>I personally find this makes it very difficult to tell how well things are actually going in Iraq. Is the country actually better off now? How stable is Iraq, really (while I didn't support the war, I also don't think Iraq would remain stable if the US pulled out right now)?<br><br>I do find it interesting to note that when the Iraq war was just starting up, I was one of those people who thought the war was about trying to create a distraction from the home front. I'm not sure that I believe as strongly in this theory as I used to, but it does seem like Iraq is distracting people from local issues, doesn't it?<br><br>A third interesting observation is the fact that I remember one analyst noting in the 2000 Canadian election that foreign affairs didn't really register as an issue. Times have changed a bit, even if foreign affairs isn't the biggest issue in Canada right now.

Domestic issues were definatly ont he fore front last presedential election in the US and now the question is mostly international issues. I agree that finding a balance is hard but I think I have a good idea of what Iraq is like but I'm arogant. I think our place is bad abut I think it couldn;t be anythign but bad when we decided to invade. Given that I'm nto sure where we are in terms of where we could be. I disagreed wiht almost everything leading up to the invasion adn since then I think our administratin has made several mistakes but I don't realy know abotu the military.

The basic excuses of the pro-war groups has been eroded to almost one cause - "We got rid of Saddam" While that's a good thing considering the history, when you look at the situation it's only allowed regional warlords and the like to gain power, with a very similar stance.<br><br>Even they don't push the Al Queda or WMD issues anymore, so really it is somewhat depressing the main cause (because remember the main cause was supposed to be WMD's) of going to war has resulted in this. Now there's nothing to do but patch things up.
