So yeah, Arsonists at it still apparently. This is horrendous, to put it lightly, that anyone would think of doing this.

I'm just curious as to how our guys from Australia here are doing right now.

I think this whole bushfire thing is hilarious.

If it is arson, then that is a horrible, irresponsible thing to do, even if these people didn't understand the consequences (which is probably the case). I hope survivors there are doing okay.

on another board, one member posted an article claiming that some of the fires had been caused by jihadists. one of our australian members gave his take on the fires
I think the only culprits in these fires have been mother nature and possibly a couple of garden variety arsonists...we get them every summer - more often that not they have some connection to the emergency services...I guess it's like the pedophiles who join the priesthood kind of thing - or those that who need to feel some sort of heroism as part of the crews putting them out.

There's been a lot of blame game stuff going on - conservationists have 'locked up' certain areas, councils have forbidden clearing of trees off properties, that kind of thing. Some of those things may have contributed to a small degree but we had erratic high winds on a 47C (117F) day in areas that haven't seen meaningful rain for a decade - it was primed to go off.

They're probably going to have to rethink the current policy of allowing people the option of staying to defend their homes. As I understand it, in California, the ordinance is that once certain conditions are reached you have to leave.

They have to realize the consequences when they hear of the death toll, I mean geez. Will it take their own house getting burned down for them to frickin learn?

I'm probably the closest to the fires on this forum. I was not in danger thankfully. Will be donating my bit for the survivors' recovery.

That picture of a firefighter giving water to a koala broke my heart.

The short video clip was wonderful.

But the first I'd heard of that picture was the one my friend saw on 4chan, which when telling me about it made me laugh a tad.

mainly because of the quote.

One of the Australians on another forum posted these... Death toll stands at 208.
How do you fight a fire when the sky itself burns?

Or when it gets hot enough to melt the wheels on your vehicle.

My immediate reaction was not exactly that, but that image was already on my clipboard so I figured meh, close enough.

It's like that facepalm guy who I assume is from star trek by the way he's dressed, except he's smiling and chuckling lightly.
