Luck of the Irish?

1.35: The amount, in millions of dollars, Ireland's major betting company paid out Thursday to people who bet that Barack Obama would become the next U.S. president.
I'm not all that surprised that people overseas have collectively bet that much on the U.S. presidential election. But they think it's already decided? That company's going to look really stupid if they guessed wrong. And didn't Obama just tell his supporters not to get cocky?

They do seem to be jumping the gun a bit. Just 17 days or so will tell the tale. I'm hoping it's not that much longer but I get this sense of dread that we might see a multi-state recount that could drag on and on. God I hope I'm wrong.

In 1996, this happened about the Premier League - bookies paid out for people who'd bet on Newcastle. In the end, Man Utd won it.

You'd think they'd learn.

I'd rather that no-one won the league than Man U.
