1. That mayor is a brave man.
2. His lover who tried to blackmail him needs a serious b*tch-slapping.
3. The fact that he's resigning is unfortunate, and were I in his position, I probably wouldn't resign unless impeachment proceedings were initiated.
5. He should have come out LONG ago.
6. He needs a big hug

I've been trying to figure this one out myself.

* He admitted to a love affair, but we've had major politicians who've had them and not resigned (Slick Willy comes to mind).

* He admitted to being homosexual, which really seems to be a non-issue. I don't see how that would influence his job.

* He resigned, but is going to be in office until November.

It seems like the only reason he's resigning is the presidential campaign.

Politics are often stupid, incomprehensible, or both at the same time.

and there is no way it can be of any practical use whatsoever."

Well, it was definately brave of him to come out and admit that. I see no reason for him to resign, but I suppose he's doing so because he knows if he was to stay in office people would always be making a big deal over his being gay (which is stupid; homosexuality is a non-issue). Why is it that in this day and age being gay is a big deal? If he had an affair with a woman, nothing would have happened and this would all slip nicely under the radar, but because he's gay, people are making a spectacle out of it and he's being forced to resign. That's awful.

No one's making a specticle of it, he resigning of his own will, he's just afriad that things will happen that affect his work.
I suppose if you look at it at the right angle then it does look like he's being forced to resign.

I've said it once I'll say it a thousand times. I don't see what someone's personal life has to do with their suitability in a political office. Granted I think this is the first time I've said it without refering to Clinton.

The really stupid thing is he's been gay, and when people didn't know about it they were fine. However the day he tells people even though he's the same person doing the same things he would've always done he gets this.
