is this some user that was here, made an ass of himself, then left, whose posting style I'm somewhat similar to...or something...?

Not much like you, and it's rather an exaggeration to say he made an ass of himself, especially compared to some who stick around. We liked him pretty well, but after a year, he had some reason to bow out.

I thought it was because he had been suffering from leg cancer and he'd finally recovered.

I don't think it was leg cancer, he joined after he got sick with something in his respiratory tract, I believe. He stuck around after getting better from that, but took his leave at 1000 posts, since he didn't want to be chained here forever, as he had better things to be doing in his life.

We miss him so, as he was a fun person in my opinion, and it was your playing with the english language that made me think of it, since he did that on a beyond regular basis.

no, he didn't reference his post count at all. He said that his lung problem was so bad that he couldn't leave the house, and he'd finally gotten well enough, so he left. Of course, he posted pictures of him walking around his neighborhood two months earlier.

if it's any consolation, I've wanted to have the highest post-count since 2005. I think I might have even had it for a month or two, until Bocaj became the king.

Ehh...there was a time when post count was a symbol to me; now I consider them a badge of almost self-deprecating pride.
I'm all, "Look at me! I'm so lame, I've managed to post thirty-three thousand messages, most of them containing--*GASP*--actual content rather than just spam! What kind of life don't I have?"

I no longer have any post-count-related ambitions.
