Dear People Who Made Symantic antivirus

Thank you for not letting me remove your program without a password. Apparently the fact that I got this installed on my computer free 6 years ago isn't an excuse to not have the password. I am reassured by your dedication to not let me have a better antivirus program installed on my computer. I am glad that having the password is the only way to uninstall the program. Thank you

Sincerely

Your bitch

I have never offered this advice with more sincerity than I do now: Punch them in the throats.

1. Open Registry Editor (regedit).
2. Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\INTEL\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\AdministratorOnly\Security\
3. Change the value for useVPuninstallpassword key from 1 to 0.
4. Exit Registry Editor and now you can uninstall Symantec AntiVirus Client.

yeah seriously, you can't just delete the files in safe mode and remove the registry entries?

Sounds like good advice except I have no idea what a registry editor is. I suppose I could look it up but I would rather complain. ARRRGGGG angry complaints!

Just hit Window's Key + R to bring up the run menu, and then type regedit in the little box (I don't know if you're using XP or not, but if you are it should also be in the start menu on the bottom right as well. I don't know if it's there or not if you're using Vista or Windows 7). Then just follow the rest of the instructions Doc gave you.

The last time I uninstalled a version of Norton, it screwed my entire OS resulting in a kernel panic.

I have never installed a Symantec product since.

Don't these kinds of practices just drive more people AWAYfrom their products? Isn't that bad for business?

Most people get Norton preinstalled on their computer and think "okay, that's virus protection" and pay the subscription fee every year. They don't need to have a friendly or even efficacious product when it's already installed on everything.
