Ants are something like a quarter of Earth's animal biomass, they have to be doing something right :V

I poison the suckers outside my house, we have a well established hive that is probably the reason we have so few bugs around. But they get uppity and try raiding the sugar bowl every now and again so gotta keep their numbers down.

There's also this really neat fungus that infests ants, spreading its tentacles (hyphae for the sophisticated) though the ant, then grows out of their back as a small mushroom. Somewhere in this process, the ant dies; kinda creepy if you ask me.
