Being a music student, I'm curious about what kind of music the people of this forum listen to. I play guitar, theremin, the shower hose and other things in a space rock/shoegaze band, and my favourite music genres are Progressive rock, jazz and classical (that includes experimental modern stuff like Messiaen's Turangalila symphony).

I like a wide variety of stuff, which I will attempt to list.

Folk, folk-rock, indie folk/pop/rock (man, these are all sounding the same), acoustic, classical (Bach/Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 First Movement <3), general rock, foreign language music (especially Russian/Polish/etc.), Tom Waits, melodic rock, a cappella, some choral, orchestral, piano rock, bluegrass, some country, nerd rock, classic rock, Celtic, filk, extreme folk MEHTUL...

There you go. Most of those weren't even made up. I also play the acoustic guitar.

Nice, I love the sound of tenor saxophones. I sometimes wish I'd bought a tenor instead of an alto.

punk/alternative/indie, ska/reggae, bluegrass, grunge, classic rock, and also some jazz, hip-hop, and others here and there.

I'm considering starting a ska band with my friend.

I play:

1.) Drumkit
2.) General Percussion
3.) Piano/Keys
4.) Bass guitar
5.) Electric guitar
6.) Some clarinet

I am in a band. We really don't know what the hell we are (we do whatever we want) but lately we've been kind of on the more melodic-MEHTUL side of things. (I'm the keyboardist in said band, sometimes contributing rhythm guitar).

I like general melodic MEHTUL (won't go into all the different genres), prog rock (modern or classic), some darkwave, some post-hardcore, Finnish folk music, some indie, industrial, and sad-sounding alternative rawk.

So that we may someday understand...

I started off on bass in a punk band when I was 13, then gave up and started guitar. I can also play drums, but I suck, and sing, but again I suck.

My favorite genre of music is progressive MEHTUL.

My favorite bands include

Ayreon
Dream Theater
Liquid Tension Experiement

and

(below) People who you've probably never heard of, but must, MUST listen to: Both are amazing guitarists and MEHTUL composers. And all of their albums are available for free on their websites. Seriously, their shit is better than most of what you'll find on store shelves. And it's FREE. FREE!
