Define 'Cynical' Awards Ceremony 2007

Postby Arloest » Sat Nov 17, 2007 10:35 pm

Well, we did this last year, and apart from me just completely skimping out no the prizes (which won't happen this time!), it went pretty well. So we might as well do it again this year! And besides, what else does this forum ever do as an entire community? Not a whole lot anymore. There were/are the art contests, but there aren't nearly as much of those as there used to be. But the point is we're going to DO this and you're gonna LIKE it. >:@

This is how it went down.
Okay, so I had this crazy idea; an AWARDS ceremony, where all DC members are eligible to win in a certain category. Kinda like the Emmy's or Oscar's or whatever.

Categories would be like this:
Most Charasmatic
Best Newbie of the Year
Most Playful
Most Likely To Die By Way Of Punchbowl

Or something... all positive things, of course. I don't want there to be any feelings hurt.

This is how I'm going to see this thing working:

There will be a committee board of about 6 who will choose all the categories, and which members (I'm thinking about 5 for each category) will be nominees for them. This, of course, means a committee must be devised, which means five of you are welcome to join. You must meet the following requirements though:
1.) You know the community here very well.
2.) You cannot let bias get in the way of who goes into which category.
3.) You can work well in a group. (As in you don't constantly refute everything).

If you think you meet these standards (they're simple enough) then please feel free to just join in (but only 5 slots are available of course).

As far as voting/rewards go, votes will probably be handled by Personal Message rather than a poll. I know this seems VERY inconvenient in comparison (sorry!) but that way when the winners are announced it will be a SURPRISE instead of, well, everyone already knowing who the winners are. (Unless you think that's stupid - then I'll nix it).

Rewards will be a professionally made banner which boasts text that reads "(YOUR NAME HERE) - DC'S MOST (whatever) MEMBER OF [2007]".

PS: Committee won't form until after the Thanksgiving Holidays because of all the travelling.
Yeah, I was too lazy to type it all up again, but that's how it goes. Except a couple of new provisions:

1. You no longer have to be awesome to be on the committee. That was so ARBITRARY. But its still good if you're awesome of course.

2. If someone wants to be the "president" or the "leader" of this thing instead of me this year (for whatever reason), then don't hesitate to volunteer. It'd be cool if a different person ran this every year. I will require this though:
1. You've been a member here for at least 2 years (you joined no later than November 2005)
2. You're not a SLACKER. In this position you have to plan meetings (or one meeting anyway), communicate with your committee and keep track of all the votes diligently. Its not that bad, but its good if you're on top of things. So yeah.

So there it is.

Anyone who wants to be on the poll for the committee, please post here and nominate yourselves now.

I was just reading last year's topic. I was happy that I was nominated for the missed poster award. Thank You!

I would like to nominate myself for the awards ceremony committee this year.

I would be glad to join the committee.
Here is fine, there is good, but DC is my home (IRC is my vacation home that I visit more often than a normal person visits a vacation home.)

Oh yes, and it looks like I cut off the nominations on November 27th last year. Seeing as I started this the exact same day as I did last year (the 17th) I guess it'll be the same.

I'd like to be in the committee.

Angela, regarding the art contests (that really aren't all that frequent anymore I know), I was thinking about it last week, but thought I'd wait until near Christmas to start one based on that.

I'll toss a limo hat into the ring here for committee consideration. You can always PM me if I'm not around for voting or whateverstuff =p

I want to not be on the committee. Too many cooks spoil the broth. Plus, if I'm not on the committee I CAN WIN TEH PRIAZ

Unless this gets more interest, this probably won't happen.

*is interested*

All interested people post now!!!!
gforce422 is awesome because:
-He made the absolute nicest comments about me in the other topic. I didn't respond to them yet, because I suck, but they are greatly appreciated! =D
-I would say he would also be a good runner up as one of the nicest people alive.
-He joined the IRC sometimes. But not enough, I say! Chat moar =D
-He is evidently only 18 year old but he could easily pass for 25. =D
-He is a drummer like *I* am and this in itself is cool.
