I'm still sticking with 16-bit.

I made this to compare. You'll need 24 bits or more to see the difference. 16 bit gives you plenty of colors (65536 colors to be exact), but most people can still see the stepping in a true-color (24 or 32 bit) image such as a photograph when displayed in 16 bits. That's 24 bit on the left, 16 bit on the right.
i go 32 bit whenever possible. also, my perfect resolution is generally 1024 by 768. I'd go bigger if my moniter whas either larger, or could handle it (which it really dislikes!)!

I only decrease to 16 bit when I am running some games that require it.

And yes dobbs, that illustrates well that you can see the difference, however if only 16 bit colours were actually _used_ then it would look fine anyway. but 32 is nicer ^^

Arg, it really sucks, I can't find the display driver for my monitor and when I try to test my games in progress it's all spasticated because it doesn't like 8-bit which is the max I can get it to.

generic drivers can sometimes only support uip to 16 colors (not 16 bit, 16!) so i'd be careful of that.
