As some of you might know, the furry art site "Yerf" has been down for some weeks. A few days back on Yerf's LJ it said the problem was due to a head crash.

All the data is gone, and apparently there was no backup. Literally thousands of pages of art are gone. They are trying to piece what they can.

Another furry (mainly) art site, VCL, is also having problems, but these are due to content and politics.

I may have gotten the date wrong (since I don't remember exactly when it happened) but it was almost definitely before the new year.

I mentioned this on the LJ, but I'll repeat it here for those concerned. The Internet Archive has a backup of the site; last time I checked at least some of the images were still there as well. I suppose Yerf's owner could contact them directly and get a bulk download of all the Yerf images they saved; I'm not sure what the Archive's policy is on that. Artists who were still posting there when the crisis hit can always re-upload their stuff, and the others can maybe still be contacted somehow. As for the rest, well, several users said they have downloaded a lot of images from Yerf over the years. Who knows, maybe between those three sources they can recover a good 80% of what they lost, maybe more.

Yeah, I remember going through that archive cuz someone linked to it on the LJ, there was a fair bit saved, I'm not sure what Yerf is accuarly doing about their problem but I'd do what Octan is saying, get back the art from the artists and people who were saving art that they liked.

Just for the record, Yerf had a strict rule against violent and lewd images. Furry art does not mean it's going to be solely in those categories, perhaps it's just your bad luck or misconception about the art you've seen. A lot of of art on Yerf was very good and realistic actually.
