This is certainly a nice opening for some general musings about what we like about the songs we like and don't like about songs we don't. Actually, I think "Louie, Louie" has some good meaning, once you figure out what the verses are saying. On the other hand, other music people would lump into the same category that make even less sense.

Just off the top of my head.. now that it's stuck in there for the next couple hours... Anyone care for "My babby Does the Hanky-Panky"? I don't think anyone's babby would be impressed with someone singing about that.

I happen to like 'Louie Louie,' even if I can't understand any of the lyrics. I always get the image of a bunch of drunken people singing in a bar when I hear it.

Hmm... I think I'm going to look up the lyrics now, I mean, I AM on the internet...

Not all pop-music consists of three chords. There is a lot of complex popular music out there ... you just need toknow where to look .

I can like anything from trancy technoish to orchestra as long as it sounds good to me. But, in my opinion most music I've heard made over 1995 or so stinks.

I am told that the musical band "Ace of Base" is quite popular.

I have heard this 'Ace Of Base,' and thought nothing of it... just another crappy band, really.

As a new forum member and consequent poster, I hate to begin by indicating my loathing for "My babby Does the Hanky-Panky," but there it is. The only meaning one can derive from this musically boring song is that it launched the popular euphemism that all cool dudes can now use when propositioning us chicks. "Love Potion Number Nine" and the Witch Doctor song demonstrate much more effective methods for attracting female attention. And they're fun to sing!

To counteract the oldies loathing: I love Love LOVE "Lightning Striking Again."

And hello to all~

being able to understand the lyrics has never been a requirement for me- a good fraction of the songs i listen to are in gaelic, after all. so i'm used to not paying so much attention to what the words are saying, but to how the song sounds overall. having said that, i also like a cappella... of course, in good a capella, you don't notice that there are no instruments, so i guess its not a contradiction

(and ragnarokt, nice avatar )

I have some on cd, though. Hardly listen to it anymore, but thats because of a general decline in my cd listening time. I wich they played some of it on the radio around here, but that'll never happen exept on saint patricks day.

edit: woops, in all the rush to post that, i forgot to post about the topic
and as for music past 1995, yeah generaly that statement about it all sucking is true, but there are some golden spots that shine through. Granted, i don't think anything in this era will have the lasting power the Beatles have, but what will?

Just take a listen to 'All the Lonely People' and 'A Day in the Life', hose are some of the greatest songs in existence. Yes, the beatles also had there mindless songs, but perhaps its that broad spectrum that has made them last.

Hmmm. Drum 'n' bass techno, outside of "Max" mixes in DDR, irritates me for some reason. Too abrasive, I guess. I dunno...most music that gets played on the radio is pretty bad, too, if only for the reason that it's all the same. The fact that, like, every radio station in the east US is owned by three or four companies doesn't help.

Oh, and "Louie, Louie" is an awesome song. Hey, at least it stands out...I have never met even one person who, upon hearing the chorus, did not immediately recognize it.
