Well, there's your answer for anyone who was wondering about Ozy's name. I never actually thought of it as being "zen".

the zen thought had crossed my mind, yes... i wonder if simspon got the idea to put that up by looking at the forum, in particular that thread exactly on that topic.

I actually first heard that poem in my history class last simester. I thought it was one of the better poems i've heard. It was actually done for a poetry contest, i think about an actual location. I may be wrong on that last part, i'm going to find out from my professor about that.

oh, Cyberskull, i think that your avatar/sig are some of the best ever! how long did that take you to make, and would you ever say "look on my avatar and sig, ye mighty, and despair!". Had to through that phrase in somewhere!

Wouldn't it be funny of DC Simpson lurks around here and posted that strip (and its explination) as a result of my post here?

http://definecynical.mancubus.net/forum ... br>Strange Timing Indeed...

well, if he saw that, it was probably only a small catylist. I'm certain that he has been asked that many many times. He very well might have intended to put it up w/out seeing the thread at all.

Although... i won't count out that possibility, i think its safe to say that Simpson will have a method to his madness(madness as a good thing). Whether or not this forum can affect that, we may never know!

I've been rather fond of that poem since we read it in my English class last year, primarily because it had a message and didn't attempt to bury it beneath layers of symbolism and hyperbole. I'd started reading O&M maybe a month before we read the poem, and when we did that assignment, the origin of Ozy's name kinda clicked. It was pretty cool, being able to apply something I learned in an English class to everyday life. Granted, I could have read the "Characters" page and found it out, as I discovered later, but this way made me feel like I'd accomplished something. Oh, and for anyone who's curious about it, here's the whole poem...

I met a traveler from an antique land
Who said: "Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
`My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look upon my works, ye Mighty, and despair!'
Nothing besides remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
-Percy Bysshe Shelley

I like that poem, but just the "My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look upon my works, ye Mighty, and despair!" part.

I really don't like poetry at all. One day I ran a search though just to see the whole thing, and for some reason, I really really love that poem.
