Happy Halloween, everyone! Today's strip, Millie gets an idea, is revisiting an early topic whose "point feels made" according to Simpson. What does anyone else think about it?

First On-topic post! haha

I think the point is %100 correct. Although my school is pretty good at dealing with bullies and stuff.

You've got to hate how unsympathetic school systems are. From where I am, if you are involved in a fight, it seems you will be punished unconditionally. It sucks, really.

Jeez, doc, you might as well post a thank-you post to all 110 posting members for posting exactly as many posts as they posted since they started posting their posts before your post-3000th post post.. No need to postpone it any further.

A lot of people overreact to school bullying.

I was always the weird, nerdy kid nobody liked. I got bullied some... but since the teachers knew I was the weird nerdy kid who wasn't starting stuff, if there was ever a fight the other guys got suspended. So, at least my schools always dealt with it pretty well.

Though I guess the high school down the street from mine didn't do a very good job of dealing with bullies... judging from what happened 4/20/99...

*steers the conversation back on topic*

All but one school I've been to dealt with bullies the same way : either punishing both parties, or outright ignoring it.

The bull that the school system lets pass with the term 'they're just kids'.

Not to sound unsympathetic, but in our age these sorts of things are showing worse and worse consequences. IE : suicide, school shootings, etc.

The other school I went to, that I loved, dealt with them properly. No coinsidence it was a 'college styled computer class' with instructor and a 'work at your own pace' style attitude (3d modeling and animation, for anyone who wants to know).

This computer class was not part of the regular 'high-school' system, but an offbranch of it. It was awesome. Too bad the regular system had to screw me over so bad, but thats a WHOOOLE other story.

I'd love to do what millie did here. =)

That thing where teachers punnish someone for retaliating is probably instinct for some reason, why else would it happen everywhere.

But they don't tolerate bullying at all in my school, you just need the courage to alert them.

What happened to the other party?

I think that bullies in school are stupid, myself. Although I suppose that I should appreciate them, since they'll make sure my pizza is delivered on time with the proper toppings and that the grass along the road is nicely trimmed. I always did like the time I watched a group of smaller (I think they were all third graders) kids bring down the massive, three Y-chromosome ox boy jerk face guy in gym class dodgeball while I was passing through one time. Oh, how the mighty fell. It was pretty funny because they kept pegging him with the balls after he'd slipped while trying to dodge, and the act went unnoticed. I laughed.

Thankfully in a private school environment, while bullying was still a common thing, and while it went mostly un-noticed and therefore unpunished, if the school got involved the bully would usually regret it. Now, the person who was the target of this may be talked to, or even given an in-school supsension, but so long as violence wasn't started by the person being picked on, he/she was relatively safe with the school. I speak from epierience here. Many people might disagree, and the dilema worsened as time passed, it seemed, but take for example this story of mine from 8th grade:

First some backround. I'll release a little personal info, simply because its free and common knoledge anyway. My parrents got a divorce a few years before this incedent. something i had come to accept by that point in life. Well, i was a huge pacafist, receding to the back of the class to avoid any negative contact from fellow classmates( i happened to be the single person to make fun of every day by every person in the class. ) One kid, who had just entered the school, kept approaching me about two things, either one: to make fun of me, or two, to attempt to buy ritalyn(crazy dumbbutted poo) off of me. Well, i didn't react too much from the former, and completely declined the latter, so he disliked me to say the least. One day, while washing my hands aftr just having used the schools lovely(sarcasm) facilities, he comes into the bathroom. He starts trying to make fun of me, getting almost(keyword: almost) nowhere. He decides to pull out the 'big gun', and say the one thing i could never ever ever block out.
He came up to me and said "You know, your parrents got divorced because of you! Your the reason for your parrents divorce!" This happened after months of teasing.... well, i snapped. The one time i ever started a fight, the only time I ever beat someone up. Let me tell you... i am a complete nerd, have always been a complete nerd, and will always be... you get the idea. Well, i definatly did not have upper body streingth... all i had really was that rage that boiled up after that groutesc, distaseful coment. Well, when the time for punishment to be delt out... heres what happened:
I got a one day out of school suspention for starting the violence
The 'bully' was given 3 days out of school suspention, had to write a note of apol;ogy, and was put under a very close watch from that point on.
As the years progressed into and through my highschool life, this changed a good bit. I was never in a fight like the one mentioned, but if i retalieated in any form, i was punished in some form. Oh well, gotta take the downs with whatever coresponding sowns!
If you've done things right, people won't be sure if you've done anything at all.

Although he had alot of my angry Senior and Junior Friends to make his life a little more unbearable (My Senior friends consisted of football players and the juniors consisted of tough guys, I almost felt sorry for him at that point and might have had he not fractured my nose.).
